📘 About the EMI Calculator
An EMI (equated monthly instalment) is the fixed amount you pay every month to repay a loan. Each EMI covers that month's interest plus part of the principal, so the interest share is highest in the early years and shrinks as the balance falls.
Use this calculator before you borrow to check whether a home, car or personal loan fits your monthly budget, and to see how the amount, interest rate and tenure change what you pay overall.
🧮 Formula
If the interest rate is 0%, the EMI is simply P ÷ n.

💡 How to keep your EMI and interest low
- Make a bigger down payment so you borrow less.
- Choose the shortest tenure whose EMI you can comfortably afford — a longer tenure lowers the EMI but raises the total interest.
- Part-prepay whenever you have spare cash; it cuts the principal and therefore all future interest.
- Compare lenders on the interest rate and on processing fees, not on the EMI alone.

❓ Frequently asked questions
Does a longer tenure save money?
It lowers each EMI but increases the total interest you pay, because the balance stays outstanding for longer. Pick the shortest tenure you can afford.
Is my EMI fixed for the whole loan?
On a fixed-rate loan, yes. On a floating-rate loan, the lender changes either your EMI or your tenure when the benchmark rate changes.
Are processing fees and insurance included?
No. The calculator shows principal and interest only. Processing fees, insurance and other charges are extra.
How is EMI calculated?
EMI = P × r × (1 + r)ⁿ ÷ [(1 + r)ⁿ − 1], where P is the loan, r the monthly rate (yearly rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n the number of months.
What is the EMI for a ₹10 lakh loan?
About ₹20,750 for 5 years at 9%, ₹12,670 for 10 years at 9%, or ₹8,680 for 20 years at 8.5%.
