📘 About the German Grade Calculator

German universities grade from 1.0 (very good) to 4.0 (sufficient, the lowest pass); a smaller number is better. To compare international applicants they use the Modified Bavarian Formula, which places your grade between the best possible grade and the minimum pass grade of your own system.

Enter your grade, the best possible grade and the minimum pass grade of your system. For an Indian 10-point CGPA these are 10 and usually 4 (some universities use 5); for percentages use 100 and your university's pass mark, commonly 40 or 35.

🧮 Formula

Modified Bavarian Formula
German grade = 1 + 3 × (Nmax − Nd) ÷ (Nmax − Nmin)

Where

  • Nmax = best possible grade
  • Nmin = minimum passing grade
  • Nd = your grade
uni-assist and universities use the pass mark printed on your transcript; a different pass mark changes the result.
