📘 About the Body Shape

The Women Body Shape Calculator estimates your general body shape using three measurements: bust, waist and hip circumference.

The calculator compares the relative proportions of your bust and hips and the difference between your waist and those measurements.

It provides an estimated classification into five commonly used descriptive body-shape categories: Hourglass, Pear, Rectangle, Inverted Triangle and Apple.

Body-shape classifications describe proportions and are not medical diagnoses or measurements of health.

The result is an approximation because body proportions can be affected by height, bone structure, posture, muscle distribution and where measurements are taken.

🧮 Formula

Bust-to-hip proportion
Bust-to-Hip Ratio = Bust ÷ Hip
Waist-to-bust proportion
Waist-to-Bust Ratio = Waist ÷ Bust
Waist-to-hip proportion
Waist-to-Hip Ratio = Waist ÷ Hip
Bust and hip difference
Bust-Hip Difference = |Bust − Hip| ÷ max(Bust, Hip) × 100

Where

  • Bust = circumference around the fullest part of the bust
  • Waist = circumference around the natural waist
  • Hip = circumference around the fullest part of the hips and buttocks
  • Bust-to-Hip Ratio = Bust ÷ Hip
  • Waist-to-Bust Ratio = Waist ÷ Bust
  • Waist-to-Hip Ratio = Waist ÷ Hip
  • Bust-Hip Difference = |Bust − Hip| ÷ larger of Bust or Hip × 100
  • Waist-Bust Difference = (Bust − Waist) ÷ Bust × 100
  • Waist-Hip Difference = (Hip − Waist) ÷ Hip × 100
The calculator focuses on relative body proportions rather than absolute body size.
