📘 About the CGPA to GPA
This converter rescales a grade point average from one scale to another in proportion: 8.2 out of 10 is the same share of the maximum as 3.28 out of 4. It is the quick estimate most students use when an application form asks for a GPA on the 4.0 scale.
Official evaluators such as WES and many US universities do not convert proportionally: they convert each subject grade (or your percentage) using their own tables, which is usually more generous. If an application needs an official GPA, get a credential evaluation.
🧮 Formula
Proportional scaling — an estimate, not an official evaluation.

💡 Good to know
- WES iGPA converts each Indian subject from its marks, so an Indian first-class student usually gets a higher 4.0 GPA than the proportional figure.
- Write the original CGPA and scale on applications too (for example "8.2 / 10"), so reviewers can judge it themselves.
❓ Frequently asked questions
How do I convert CGPA to GPA on a 4.0 scale?
Divide by 10 and multiply by 4. A CGPA of 8.2 is roughly 3.28 on the 4.0 scale.
Is 8 CGPA good for US universities?
8 out of 10 is about 3.2 proportionally, but evaluators such as WES often rate a first-class Indian record at 3.5 or more. Admissions look at your university and grades together.
Should I convert my CGPA on applications?
Only if the form asks for a 4.0 GPA. Many universities ask for the original scale; give both if you can.
