📘 About the GST Calculator
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is added to the price of most goods and services in India. Since GST 2.0 took effect on 22 September 2025 there are three main rates: 5% for essentials, 18% as the standard rate, and 40% for luxury and "sin" goods such as tobacco, aerated drinks and large cars. Gold and jewellery stay at 3% and diamonds at 0.25% or 1.5%.
Choose "Add GST" when your price is before tax (for an invoice), or "Remove GST" when the price already includes GST (an MRP or a bill total) to find the taxable value. For a sale within the same state the GST is split equally into CGST and SGST; for a sale to another state or an import it is charged as IGST.
🧮 Formula
GST is calculated on the taxable value after any discount shown on the invoice.

❓ Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate GST?
Multiply the price by the GST rate: ₹10,000 at 18% is ₹1,800 GST, so the total is ₹11,800. For a same-state sale that is ₹900 CGST + ₹900 SGST.
How do I remove GST from a price?
Divide the price by 1 + rate. A ₹1,180 bill at 18% has a taxable value of 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 and GST of ₹180.
What are the new GST slabs?
From 22 September 2025 the main rates are 5%, 18% and 40%. The 12% and 28% slabs were merged into these, and special rates of 3% (gold) and 0.25%/1.5% (diamonds) continue.
When is CGST + SGST charged and when IGST?
CGST + SGST for a supply within the same state (or UTGST in a union territory); IGST for a supply between states, imports and exports.
Is GST charged on the discounted price?
Yes, if the discount is shown on the invoice at the time of sale, GST is charged on the price after the discount.
