The number of dismissals rather than the number of innings is used in the denominator.

Batting average
Batting Average = Total Runs รท Times Dismissed

Where

  • Total runs = runs scored
  • Dismissals = times the batter was out
  • Batting average = runs รท dismissals
A not-out innings does not count as a dismissal.
