1 lakh = 100 thousand, 10 lakh = 1 million, 1 crore = 10 million, 100 crore = 1 billion. In Indian figures commas come after the first three digits from the right and then every two digits (1,00,00,000); internationally every three digits (10,000,000).
1 lakh has 5 zeros (1,00,000) and 1 crore has 7 zeros (1,00,00,000).
1.5 lakh is 1,50,000: "One Lakh Fifty Thousand". On a cheque: "Rupees One Lakh Fifty Thousand Only".
Both are seen, but "lakh" is the standard spelling used by the Reserve Bank of India and in official documents.
