📘 About the Rising Sign
Your rising sign, or Ascendant, is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment you were born. Medieval astrologers treated it as the most personal point of the chart — the 'horoscope' itself.
Enter your birth date, time and place. The calculator works out the Sun's position and local sidereal time astronomically, then gives the Ascendant, Midheaven, your traditional chart ruler (using the seven classical planets) and the twelve whole-sign houses with their medieval meanings.

Why do I need my birth time?
The rising sign changes about every 2 hours, so the time decides it; the Sun sign needs only the date.
What is a chart ruler?
The planet that rules your rising sign — in medieval astrology one of the seven classical planets, e.g. Saturn for Capricorn and Aquarius.
Is this the same as my Vedic lagna?
No — this uses the Western tropical zodiac. The Vedic (sidereal) lagna is usually about 24° earlier, often the previous sign.
Is this scientific?
No. Astrology has no scientific support; these tools reproduce historical medieval methods for interest and entertainment.
