📘 About the X-Intercept

Find where a non-horizontal line crosses the x-axis.

🧮 Formula

X-intercept
x = -b/m

Where

  • m = slope
  • b = y-intercept
x-intercept = -b/m.

✏️ Worked example

y = 2x + 6

You enter
Slope m2
Y-Intercept b6
You get
X-Intercept-3

The x-intercept is -3.

🧭 How to use this calculator

What you enter

  • Slope m
  • Y-Intercept b

What you get

  • X-Intercept

💡 Common uses

  • Coordinate geometry homework and revision
  • Analytic geometry calculations
  • Checking graph and line calculations

❓ Frequently asked questions

What if the slope is zero?

A horizontal line may have no x-intercept or infinitely many points on the x-axis if b is zero. The current engine returns 0 for division by zero.
