📘 About the Growth Rate

How fast a child grows tells you more than a single height. Children grow about 25 cm in the first year, 10–14 cm in the second, then a steady 5–6.5 cm a year until puberty, when growth speeds up again.

Enter two measurements taken at least 6 months apart (ideally a year) to get the growth rate. After age 3, growing less than 4 cm a year is a reason to see a doctor.

❓ Frequently asked questions

How many cm should a child grow per year?

About 5–6.5 cm a year between age 3 and puberty.

When is the growth spurt?

Around 10–12 years for girls and 12–14 years for boys, at 6–12 cm a year.

Why measure 6–12 months apart?

Children grow in spurts and measurements have errors, so short intervals give misleading rates.
