📘 About the Mayan Gender Predictor

The Mayan gender predictor applies the rule known as the Mayan gender calendar or Mayan gender chart. It looks at two numbers, the mother's age at conception and the year of conception, and checks whether each is even or odd. Enter the mother's date of birth and the conception date or due date, and the calculator works out both numbers and applies the rule.

Please read this first: the rule is folklore, not science, and no better than a coin toss. It is shown here only for fun. Power Calculators does not support, promote or provide sex determination or sex selection, and we strongly oppose female foeticide. Every child, girl or boy, is equally precious.

Pre-natal sex determination and sex selection are illegal in India under the PC&PNDT Act, 1994, and are restricted in many other countries. Never use this, or anything else, to make a decision about a pregnancy.

🧮 Formula

The Mayan rule
Both even or both odd → girl · one even and one odd → boy
Mother's age at conception
Age = completed years from the mother's birthday to the conception date
Conception date from a due date
Conception ≈ due date − 266 days

Where

  • Age = the mother's ordinary age (not lunar age) on the day of conception
  • Year = the calendar year in which conception happened
  • 266 days = 38 weeks, the average time from conception to the due date
Some versions use the month of conception instead of the year. This calculator uses the year, which is the most common version.

💡 Important disclaimer — please read

This page is for entertainment and general information only. The Mayan gender predictor has no scientific or medical basis and cannot tell you the sex of a baby. Its answer is a guess with about a 50% chance of being right.

Power Calculators does not support, promote or provide sex determination or sex selection, and we strongly oppose female foeticide. Every child, girl or boy, is equally precious. We do not offer, advertise or refer anyone to any service for finding out or choosing a baby's sex, and no feature on this site is meant for planning a pregnancy around the sex of the baby. For the same reason we do not publish month-by-month planning grids or suggest 'best months' to conceive a boy or a girl.

Nothing on this page is medical or legal advice. For anything about your pregnancy, talk to a qualified doctor.

💡 The law: sex determination and sex selection

India: the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 (PC&PNDT Act) bans determining or revealing the sex of a foetus, bans sex selection before or after conception, and bans advertising any such service. Offences are punishable with imprisonment and fines, and doctors can lose their registration. Sex-selective abortion is also an offence.

Many other countries also restrict sex selection for non-medical reasons or ban sex-selective abortion. Laws differ from country to country, so it is your responsibility to follow the law where you live. If this page is not lawful where you are, please do not use it.

If you are being pressured to find out a baby's sex or to end a pregnancy because of it, you are not alone. In India you can call the Women Helpline on 181, or the emergency number 112.

💡 How the Mayan gender predictor works

  • Step 1: Work out the mother's age on the day of conception (ordinary age, by birthday).
  • Step 2: Note the calendar year of conception.
  • Step 3: If both numbers are even, or both are odd, the rule says girl. If one is even and the other odd, it says boy.
  • Example: a mother aged 29 (odd) conceiving in 2026 (even) gives one odd and one even, so the rule says boy.

💡 How accurate is the Mayan method?

It is simply a parity check, so it splits every pregnancy 50/50 between its two answers. A baby's sex is decided by whether the sperm carries an X or a Y chromosome, which has nothing to do with whether two numbers are even or odd. It is right about half the time, exactly as chance would be.

💡 Is it really Mayan?

There is no evidence that the ancient Maya used this rule. Mayan calendars were very sophisticated, but the 'Mayan gender predictor' appears to be a modern internet invention that borrowed the name.

❓ Frequently asked questions

What is the Mayan gender predictor?

It is a folk rule that compares the mother's age at conception with the year of conception. If both are even or both are odd it says girl; if one is even and one is odd it says boy. It has no scientific basis.

How do I use the Mayan gender calendar?

Enter the mother's date of birth and the conception date or due date. The calculator works out her age at conception and the year of conception, checks whether each is even or odd, and applies the rule.

Which age does the Mayan method use?

The mother's ordinary age on the day of conception, not her lunar age.

How accurate is the Mayan gender predictor?

About 50%, the same as tossing a coin. The rule is a simple even/odd check with no link to how a baby's sex is decided.

Did the ancient Maya really use it?

There is no evidence that they did. The method seems to be a modern invention that uses the Mayan name.

Can this help me conceive a boy or a girl?

No. No calendar, chart or folk method can influence or predict a baby's sex, and we do not offer any gender selection tool. Sex selection is illegal in India and restricted in many other countries.

Is it legal to find out a baby's sex in India?

No. Under the PC&PNDT Act, 1994, determining or revealing the sex of a foetus is illegal in India, and so is sex selection. No doctor, clinic or test may tell you the baby's sex before birth. Folk methods like this one do not determine anything.

Does Power Calculators support gender prediction?

No. We do not support, promote or provide sex determination or sex selection, and we strongly oppose female foeticide. This page explains a piece of folklore and why it does not work. Every child, girl or boy, is equally precious.
