📘 About the Retirement Savings Rule
Two rules of thumb make retirement planning easier. Save about 15% of your income every year, and aim for a corpus of about 25 times your yearly expenses, the idea behind the 4% withdrawal rule.
Enter your income, age, planned retirement age and yearly expenses to see your monthly savings target, the corpus needed and the years left.
🧮 Formula
The 4% rule comes from US research. Inflation and returns differ in India, so use it as a starting point.
✏️ Worked example
₹12 lakh income, age 30, ₹6 lakh yearly expenses
You get| Save every month (15% rule) | ₹15,000 |
| Corpus needed in today's money (25×) | ₹1.5 crore |
| Corpus needed at retirement (6% inflation) | ₹8.62 crore |
| Years to retirement | 30 years |
| Monthly SIP needed at 12% return | ₹24,406 |
| 15% rule saved for 30 years at 12% | ₹5.29 crore |
Save ₹15,000 a month; corpus at retirement ₹8.62 crore; SIP needed ₹24,406.

❓ Frequently asked questions
Are today's expenses enough to plan with?
No. Expenses will rise with inflation. Use the inflation calculator to project them to your retirement date.
Why 4%?
Historically a portfolio could support withdrawals of about 4% a year for decades. It is a guideline, not a guarantee.
What if I cannot save 15%?
Start with what you can and increase it each year as your income grows.
How much do I need to retire in India?
About 25 times your yearly expenses at retirement. With 6% inflation, ₹6 lakh of expenses today becomes about ₹34 lakh a year in 30 years, needing a corpus of about ₹8.6 crore.
