📘 About the SIP Calculator

A SIP (systematic investment plan) invests a fixed amount in a mutual fund every month. Because you buy regularly, you average out market ups and downs, and compounding builds your corpus over time.

This calculator supports a starting lump sum and an annual step-up, so you can see how raising your SIP each year — say by 10% as your salary grows — changes the final value. It shows the maturity value, total invested, wealth gained, a year-by-year table, the value in today's money after inflation and the SIP needed to build ₹1 crore.

🧮 Formula

Future value of a monthly SIP
FV = P × [ ((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i ]
Lump sum
Lump sum growth = L × (1 + i)ⁿ
Step-up
Each year the monthly deposit is increased by the step-up %

Where

  • P = monthly SIP amount
  • i = monthly return = expected annual return ÷ 12 ÷ 100
  • n = number of months = years × 12
  • L = lump sum invested at the start
Returns are an assumption, not a guarantee. Actual mutual fund returns vary with the market.

❓ Frequently asked questions

How much SIP should I start with?

A common approach is to invest 15–20% of your monthly income and increase it each year as your income grows.

Is a higher return always realistic?

No. Use conservative assumptions. Equity funds have delivered high returns over long periods but can fall sharply in the short term.

Does the step-up help?

Yes. Raising your SIP by even 10% a year increases the final corpus significantly because larger amounts get invested earlier.

How is SIP return calculated?

FV = P × [((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i), where P is the monthly SIP, i the monthly return and n the number of months.

How much SIP for ₹1 crore?

About ₹10,000 a month for 20 years at 12%, or ₹20,000 a month for 15 years.
